League System 2027: What's Changing

By Jari Rentsch | Oct. 1, 2026

With the 2026 season coming to an end, we're getting ready for Nationals and already preparing the next season of the Unity League.

Did you qualify for the 2026 Nationals?

The 2026 season ends on September 30. Organizers have until October 1 at 23:59 to upload any remaining September results.

If you qualified for Nationals, you should receive your qualification email by October 3 at 23:59.

If you haven't received an email by then, please log in to Unity League and check your messages. Your qualification message will also be available there.

The new season starts immediately

There is no break between seasons. Events played from 1 Oct 2026 to 30 Sep 2027 will already award points for the new season as usual.

While the new season is starting, we're making a few changes based on this year's data and feedback from players and organizers.

Top 4 Finals for smaller Leagues

We've seen that smaller Store Leagues sometimes find it difficult to assemble 8 players for their League Finals.

As a result, we now recommend running a Top 4 Final (instead of top 8) for Leagues with less than 8 players on average across all events.

This should make qualifying for your local League Final a more meaningful achievement, while still giving organizers the flexibility to choose what works best for their community.

Organizers can still choose to run a Top 8 Final. We particularly recommend this for Draft/Limited Finals and larger Leagues.

Bonus points for League Finals and Premier events

Ultimately Unity League aims to find the best players among the most active players. Hence it's important to us to both reward players that play consistently and players that perform well in those tournaments. In the last season, we believe playing many events was rewarded disproportionately.

To better reward top performers at Unity League events, we will provide the following bonus points for playoff finishes:

League Finals & District*

  • Winner: 100 points
  • Finalist: 60 points
  • Semifinalists: 40 points
  • Quarterfinalists: 20 points

*Only District events with 17 or more players are eligible for bonus points.

Premier events

  • Winner: 300 points
  • Finalist: 180 points
  • Semifinalists: 120 points
  • Quarterfinalists: 90 points

New event tier rules

We've seen that organizers, who are running many higher-tier events during a short period, advantages players that live close by.

To balance the opportunity to collect points we're introducing a few additional rules around event tiers:

Prereleases

Each store location, at most one prerelease event per set can be upgrade either League or District. All other prerelease events of that set must be Regular.

Recurring events

Weekly and fortnightly events should be hosted as League or Regular events and can no longer be upgraded to District.

Unity League: Premier

Each organizer may run at most 1 Premier event per season. Organizers may contact us and apply to run further Premier events.

No minimum League fee

We're removing the €150 minimum fee for Leagues. Organizers will simply pay the regular €1 per player per League event, regardless of the League's total participation.

Instead, a League must run for at least 15 weeks and include at least 15 League events with 4+ participants.

Premier event structure

Throughout 2026 we've experimented with smaller Premier events in stores and collaborating more tightly on social media, giveaways with the organizers of those events.

Going forward we've decided to continue with a simpler model. Instead of providing strict rules around Premier events, we simply provide some guidelines and leave most things up to the organizer.

With these changes, we're also changing the fees for Unity League: Premier events to €4 per player with a minimum of €200.

What's next?

We're looking forward to the upcoming 2026 Unity League Nationals!

We'll be collecting and processing feedback from this year's Nationals. More information will follow in November and December, including qualification slots for each country and applications to host the next National Championships.
